Colosseum Shooter Devlog #3
Hey everyone, I am here to keep you up to date with upcoming changes and features coming to the game in the future.
I hope everyone has been enjoying the Level Sewers and the more functional version of Snow Chasm. I won't be adding another stage until I have finished with the ones in the game already, as two of them still need bosses added to them.
Snow chasm changes
I have altered the level a bit on the outside so now the building has a roof and there are fences on certain parts of the map. An edge injector has also been added to the floor, so it is easier to tell where the edge of it is.
For the interior I have stretched out the room so it feels less cramped. The play area itself is the same size however, as there is a barrier stopping from going deeper in as well as this area will also be where enemies will spawn in after the area has opened up to the player.
Please take a look a the images below for the stage changes:
Menu Changes
The main menu has been redesigned, now the buttons cover a larger amount of the screen now.
I designed it so that any of the gameplay menus were larger and at the top of the page. As for the miscellaneous menus where put at the bottom in a row.
Now for the button on the right hand side with the question mark on them those are modes that will be added at a later date, think of them like them like the “games & more” menu from smash bro Ultimate. Extra modes that are not the main focal point of the game but something to do on the side.
The quit button has been removed, so now you have to press esc on the keyboard to open up a menu asking if you want to quit the game. I feel that this is a lot better than before, as it would have taken up part of the screen with how the menu is set up. Plus you can no longer accidentally quit the game.
Obviously this game is a work in progress so there a lot more work that need to be done with all the menus, to make them more visually appealing.
Load screen
A load screen has been added. So whenever you select at level it will pop up with the level image and the name of the level itself. I do want to add tips at the bottom but with how fast the levels load I don't know if there would be any point at them moment as you wouldn't be able to read them. At least the tips menu is already in the game so you always look at that if needed.
Gameplay changes
In terms of changes to the actual gameplay is that a countdown timer has been added, so when you start a stage it will countdown from three indicating when the first gate or gates will open. I might do more with this feature in the future or I might just leave it as it is.
So a quick summary of everything in this Devlog. New main menu, changes to the level snow chasm, new load screen when selecting a level, new countdown timer for when starting a new stage.
Any other change will be added to the patch notes when the next update is released.
Thanks for reading and I hope you continue to enjoy the game.
